Abraham Omowunmi Ewatee fighting for a new Nigeria and Human rights narrates how she was beaten by The Nigerian police force led by DPO C.O Egbonmonrati.
Including the driver that drove us down to Iree town, we were 10 in numbers, we sensitized the people in Iree, the market women, the neighborhood, told them about the need of changing the system for the best.
And, you could see it on their faces how happy and ready they are, they are just waiting for someone to take the lead, In which they are so much ready for. Trust me, I felt my reason there wasn’t in vain.
On our way coming back, marching to where our bus was parked, gyrating, we marched by Iree police station before getting to where the bus was parked. Infact, we were already entering the bus. The Iree DPO in the person of Egbonmoroti sent one of his officer to call on us, and fearlessly, we walked majestically into the police station, you know why we know our constitutional rights, and we are law abiding citizens.
On getting there, the police talked and talked and accused us of not getting a police approvement to walk around Iree, when is not as if Iree town is any other country in which you’ll need a visa to visit. On that, we laughed it off and told him it wasn’t written in the Constitution.
He put us behind the counter and called his superior officers for us to be transferred to the CID, Osogbo, Osun state. Hearing that, my fellow comrades who are undeterred gyrated, to show how high their spirit is.
We were transferred to the state CID, we gyrated on our way, infact we even engaged those police officers and they were testifying that we are fighting a good cause but they are just following orders. You know (Zombie way na one way)I told them if only they could channel this energy towards the terrorist in Nigeria, we wouldn’t have been in their van.
On getting to the State CID, we were taken to the DCP Office, As we were about to enter, they insisted us to wear a nose mask before entering, and you could see, all of those who commanded us to wear a nose mask had none on their noses.
There, we asked them why their nose mask was not on them, and they can’t be telling us to put on a nose mask where as, they had nothing on. No one is above the law. But these people whose job is to implement the law are not law abiding. All they could say to defend themselves was, “am I your mate? I was once a student like you, you’re very stupid”, Blablabla the challenge really got them. Within some minutes, after that, the DCP came out like Mike Tyson, and Ola Marx, a fellow comrade of mine was pointed to by the police, he took him in, beating him, follow that, I was ushered in with gun, after being pointed to by the police women for challenging them.
The DCP in person of DCP Hamzat Adebola Ayinde descended on me, a lot of kickings, a lot of punches which gave me bruises on my face.
He felt intimidated when he saw me with no tears, that provoked him to do more. But then, I was unshaken and I am still. An unprofessional act from a DCP.
Is this the Nigeria we all want to continue with? Though, he later apologized, but the deed has been done.
The DPO was blamed and warned before us all, for taking such a stupid step of arresting us, he himself claimed we are not criminals and there is no reason for him to have done such.
We were asked to give a statement in which we insisted we see our lawyer before we could do that. We did that after seeing our lawyer in person of Barr Alfred, and all other Comrades who came in solidarity.
Note: Equality before the law no matter what. Nothing like this is Nigeria, Equality before the law.
God or Christ will not only fight this battle on our behalf, Prayer without work is useless.
Nigeria, will be among the best, sooner.
Nothing like small small enough of that abeg infact if you put that in your comment I will not like it.
Thanks for demanding for our release.
We’ll be back on the streets today. We’ll continue this until we see a Nigeria that works for all.
